Cells reslting form mitosis have a diloid number (2N) that are genetically identical to each other, and the original parent. Cells from meiosis havfe a haploid number (N), of chromosomes and are genetically different. 12. Similarity-both products of meiosis I and Meiosis II-haploid. Differences- 2 cells from meiosis I, and 4 cells from meiosis II. 13. Gamete formation in either sex is a result of meiosis... In males all 4 cells usually become all gametes. In females, cytoplasm not divided equally; only 1 out of 4 become gamete (the other will be polar bodies). 14, Each daughter cell ------14 chromosomes
Worksheet 17 - 1. a matching pair of chromosomes, one from the father and one from the mother (together they form a tetrad). 2. 2 identical copies of each chromosome, attached by a centromere. 3. anaphase I. 4. anaphase II. 5. sisters are (before x-over) they are identical. Here are the answers for the 10.2 Workbook, if you missed something in class:
File Not Found
.
Here are the 10.2 Section Rev. Ans: 1. The four phases of the cell cycle are the M phase (mitosis + cytokinesis), G1 phase (cell growth), S phase (DNA replication), and G2 phase. 2. The cell replicates its chromosomes. 3. During cytokinesis, the cytoplasm divides form one cell into two cells. 4. metaphase 5. prophase 6. prophase 7. anaphase 8. telophase 9. prophase 10. metaphase 11. anaphase 12. Mitosis only refers to the division of the nucleus. Cell division is the nucleus (mitosis) and cytoplasm (cytokinesis) division. 13. First, convert 7.5 hrs into minutes (450). Then divide that by 75, which is how long each cycle takes. You find that six cycles will occur in 450 minutes. At the end of cycle one, there would be 2 cells. At the end of two, there would be 4 cells. At the end of three, 8 cells. At the end of four, 16 cells. At the end of five, 32 cells, at the end of six, 64 cells. Or, you could take 2 to the 6th power! 14. Any of these would be reasons...incorrect movement of chromosomes during mitosis, lack of cytokinesis, DNA duplication without cell division. 15. Animal cells have centrioles, plant do not. Plant cells have cell plates, animals do not.
Read section 10.3 (pgs 250-255) Regulating the Cell Cycle. For FRIDAY, do the one-sided workbook page (middle link above).

how to label all the diagrams in 7.3 Outline/Figures packet (membrane parts, facilitated diffusion, active transport)
know how to label the organelles in a diagram of a cell
difference between plant and animal cells
know the function of the organelles
know the process to forming proteins (called protein synthesis)-ribosomes to rough ER to Golgi
know the 3 types of Passive Transport (simple diffusion, osmosis, facilitated diffusion) and 3 types of Active Transport (molecular transport and endocytosis (phagocytosis or pinocytosis) and exocytosis
Passive-no energy, high to low (with concentration gradient......Active-yes energy required, moves molecules from low to high, against concentration gradient)
explain why we saw what we did in the Naked Egg Demo-in water, egg swelled, in egg the egg stayed about the same, and in syrup, the egg shriveled.
know which situation was a hypotonic solution, an isotonic solution, and a hypertonic solution
STUDY FOR Quiz TOMORROW ON 7.2 AND 7.3 (NOT 7.4)
I RECOMMEND VIEWING THE VIDEO CLIPS AGAIN THAT ARE IN 7.3 (Diffusion, Osmosis, Passive/Active Transport, Endo-Exocytosis)
Worksheet #7 Answers (Endocytosis and Exocytosis)
Part A
1. process by which wastes and cell products are secreted out of a cell through the membrane
2. a form of ACTIVE TRANSPORT in which a portion of the membrane surrounds outside particles and moves them into the cell
3. a form of endocytosis; the process by which a cell engulfs a food particle or other solid substance
Part B
1. both processes involve the bulk movement of substances across the the cell membrane by means of a vesicle (membrane-bound sac)
2. endocytosis moves things into the cell; exocytosis moves them out
3. a membrane-bound sac
4. they can engulf bacteria and other substances
5. phagocytosis OR endocytosis
6. a vesicle filled with digestive enzymes-it is used to break down or digest things
7. waste material or cell products to be secreted

c.no Part B
1. could have any of the following: oxygen, carbon dioxide, water, or some of the amino acids
2. poss. ans. could be proteins or carbohydrates
3. charged particles cannot move through the layer of lipid tails
4. both move molecules down their concentration gradient (from HIGH to LOW)
5. facilitated diffusion uses a carrier protein; (simple) diffusion does not
6. both use carrier proteins
7. facilitated diffusion DOES NOT require energy; active transport DOES! Facilitated diff. moves molecules down a conc. gradient (HIGH to LOW). Active transport moves molecules in the opposite direction - from LOW to HIGH conc.
8. ATP energy changes the shape of the carrier (channel) protein so it can move sodium out and potassium into a cell

Poison Control: When I called last night, they said we were not allowed to call from the classroom for our question, but the person did answer it for me:
ZB from Period 7 wanted to know if you drank a large amount of hydrogen peroxide, should you then eat raw liver (peroxidase enzyme)??! They said that the peroxide would be bubbling already (something it does also when it comes in contact with the bacteria in your mouth/throat/etc), causing you to burp and throw it up. Also, you would not be poisoned because it would need to get into your cells in order to be toxic.

STUDY FOR Quiz TOMORROW ON 7.2 AND 7.3 (NOT 7.4)
I RECOMMEND VIEWING THE VIDEO CLIPS AGAIN THAT ARE IN 7.3 (Diffusion, Osmosis, Passive/Active Transport, Endo-Exocytosis)
- Worksheet #7 Answers (Endocytosis and Exocytosis)
Part A1. process by which wastes and cell products are secreted out of a cell through the membrane
2. a form of ACTIVE TRANSPORT in which a portion of the membrane surrounds outside particles and moves them into the cell
3. a form of endocytosis; the process by which a cell engulfs a food particle or other solid substance
Part B
1. both processes involve the bulk movement of substances across the the cell membrane by means of a vesicle (membrane-bound sac)
2. endocytosis moves things into the cell; exocytosis moves them out
3. a membrane-bound sac
4. they can engulf bacteria and other substances
5. phagocytosis OR endocytosis
6. a vesicle filled with digestive enzymes-it is used to break down or digest things
7. waste material or cell products to be secreted

2. poss. ans. could be proteins or carbohydrates
3. charged particles cannot move through the layer of lipid tails
4. both move molecules down their concentration gradient (from HIGH to LOW)
5. facilitated diffusion uses a carrier protein; (simple) diffusion does not
6. both use carrier proteins
7. facilitated diffusion DOES NOT require energy; active transport DOES!
